Diya (Chad) - LM International Competition

In N'Djamena, Dane and Delphine are preparing to welcome their first child. A driver for a humanitarian NGO, Dane criss-crosses the city streets every day. One day, while driving to answer a call, he accidentally hits a child crossing the road. The child succumbed to his injuries in hospital. According to customary law, the Dia applies: Dane must pay financial compensation in euros to the victim's family. Failing to collect this sum, he is imprisoned for homicide. The village tried to help by contributing, but the funds were insufficient. Dane eventually gets out of prison to top up the money. Meanwhile, Delphine is approaching the term of her pregnancy. Dane has to juggle her presence with repaying the debt.
